Our HistorySt. Noel Chabanel School opened its doors in September of 2000 with 379 students and 19 staff. The Principal was Mrs. Denise Calvert, the School Office Administrator was Mrs. Shelley Zulys and our Chief Custodian was Mr. Raymond vander Kruys. Our official opening was June 10, 2001.
As a result of some construction concerns, students were moved in September 2001 to temporary classrooms at St. Mary’s in Collingwood, Byng Public in Stayner, Ecole Marguerite Bourgeois in Base Borden, and Jean Vanier High in Collingwood until portable classrooms could be moved on site at St. Noel Chabanel School. All students returned on November 26th, 2001 to the portable classes. Staff and students were able to return permanently to the school building on June 4, 2002.
The building features a large office area (Health Room, Workroom, Staff Room), fabulous Library with Conference Room, a large Gym (with kitchen) and Stage, sixteen classrooms, a Special Needs area (kitchen, laundry, washroom, office) and Custodial office. The school yard has two soccer fields, numerous tetherball posts, basketball hoops and enclosed Kindergarten area.
